Fearing God

There are times when fear is good. It must keep its watchful place at the heart's controls.Aeschylus (525-456 BC, Greek dramatist)

Acts 9:31
So the church throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace, being built up and walking in the fear of the Lord and in the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, and it increased in numbers. (HCSB)

No single English word describes the word “fear” of the Lord. The meaning includes worshipful submission, reverential awe, and obedient respect to the covenant-keeping God of Israel. Understanding “fear” in God’s dictionary is important to Christian growth. Solomon tells us in Eccl 12:13 “When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is: fear God and keep His commands, because this is for all humanity.

So what are we missing today, we are missing the fear. Psalms 34:11 says “come children, listen to me, and I will teach you the “Fear of The Lord.”. If I could describe it, to me it is like following a map, and watching the sign posts along the way. We should be watching for landmarks that tell us we are on the right path. Some are journeying in the world today without the “Fear” of the Lord aiding them as their compass.

In Philippians 2:12, we find Paul telling the children of God to work out their salvation in obedience, and with “Fear and trembling. It is a fear of falling short of the mark, which is the definition of sin. It is a respect for and a seeking of holiness, which without it, no one shall see God. Walking in fear knows what Peter says in 1 Peter 1:17, that this is a temporary journey, and then we see Him, face to face…God Bless.
